Lake District:
Dale Head
1 May 2005
On a beautiful May afternoon, George looks cheerful as he waits for Stephen to
climb more slowly
A rather odd fence, ending in the middle of nowhere, with Grey Knotts behind
George races back to fetch Stephen
Hurry up!
A lonely fence post, with Honister Crag and Black Star beind
Reaching the summit, the view north is revealed suddenly and dramatically, the
glacial valley of Newlands Beck running towards the Skiddaw massif, with
Blencathra on the right.
Looking north-west past the splendid summit cairn over Hindscarth to the Derwent
Fells
A panoramic photo shows the Newlands valley between Hindscarth on the left and
the High Spy to Maiden Moor ridge on the right
Descending towards Honister Hause
Some of the roads made in connection with the Honister Quarries are visible
here, with Buttermere just visible on the far right
The site of a bridge which used to carry a quarry railway over the road
